The game uses a distinctive coloring style, as well as including the choice of a grayscale filter, in homage to traditional film noir. As the title suggests, the game draws heavily from both plot and aesthetic elements of film noir - stylistic films from the 1940s and 1950s that shared similar visual styles and themes including crime, sex, and moral ambiguity, often shot in black-and-white with high-contrast lighting and dark shadows. After each case, you will receive a rating of 1-5 starts depending on the your performance in solving the case. You will be assigned a case where in which you must solve. In the game, Cole Phelps will have partners who will help him in his investigation of a number of cases based on a specific type of crime. The player’s success will depend on the progress of his investigation and how much impact each case’s story is revealed.
